Tithing
“Give to the Most High as he has given to you, generously, according to your means.”
– Sirach 35:12
Immaculate Conception is striving to become a tithing parish.
Tithing can be summed up in this one sentence: What do I in justice need to give back to God? Tithing is the Biblical way of speaking about giving back to God from all the good he has given to us. God invites us to be generous in giving.
The Bible has a lot to say about financial giving.
Scriptures and Tithing handout
Tithing can certainly be intimidating to think about. God doesn’t want us to become destitute because we are giving away so much money to the Church, but he does want to challenge us and stretch us out of our comfort zone. This requires us to trust Him more. Here is a great article about taking the leap to begin tithing and putting our trust in God.
Adventures in Tithing article
God doesn’t promise us great wealth for being faithful to him, but he does promise that he will take care of us:
“Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?”
– Matthew 6:26
