Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ
Corpus Christi
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven.”
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which is Latin for “The Body of Christ”. As Catholics we believe that when Jesus said “This is my Body…this is my Blood” he meant it. What a great gift that for 2,000 years, the true Body and Blood of Jesus Christ have been present with us in the Eucharist.
This week’s image is called The Virgin of the Host by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and was painted in 1866. I love this image for the way it shows Mary’s devotion for her Son, Jesus, in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.
We are so blessed to have the Eucharist. I think I speak for many of us when I say that I have grown in my appreciation for Jesus in the Eucharist during the past few months when we have been limited in our ability to come to Mass and receive Our Lord.
I encourage all parishioners to not only begin returning to Mass, but also to take time during the week to stop into church and pray to Jesus in the Eucharist who is always present with us.
In my own life, nothing has helped me grow in my faith more than my daily reception of Holy Communion, and my daily holy hour of prayer with Jesus in the Eucharist.
You are in my daily prayers.
God bless you,
Fr. VanDenBroeke
