Easter Sunday

Jesus is Risen!  Alleluia!

This week’s Marian image is called The Resurrected Christ Appears to His Mother and is by Theodoor van Thulden.  (Actually, from what I can tell, the original by him was black and white.  I can’t find any documentation of where this colored version came from.  But it is beautiful!)

This picture portrays Jesus after his resurrection appearing to his Blessed Mother.  His Mother reaches out to him with astonished joy.  The angels in heaven rejoice and hold a banner reading “Regina Caeli Laetare Alleluia”, translated, “Queen of Heaven, Rejoice!  Alleluia!”  This is the first line of a beautiful Marian song called the Regina Caeli, which reflects with Maryupon Jesus’ resurrection.

For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.

Has risen, as he said, alleluia.

Pray for us to God, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.

For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
